Wessling
Wessling, once a village with purely agricultural character, counts around 5,100 inhabitants today and is situated right on the dividing line between the south-western catchment area of the Bavarian capital city of Munich and the holiday area "Five Lakes District". Rural structures on the one hand and technical firms on the other characterize our town. The German Aerospace Centre is located here, along with numerous other companies.
The heart of Wessling is our lake, a so-called "dead ice pit", a formation from the last Ice Age. For many years now, Wessling has done its utmost to preserve this gem and has initiated numerous
measures to do so. One hundred years ago, the first stretch of railway was built from Munich to Herrsching, which also linked Wessling to the railway. Nowadays, the S 5 line connects Wessling to
Munich's public transport network.
For Wessling, the effects of expansive settlement patterns around the federal state's capital present a considerable challenge. In the years to come, the decisions taken by Wessling's
administrative authority will be marked by the task of preserving the structures which have slowly evolved, together with our beautiful countryside, whilst integrating future-oriented
developments.
