Trips - Munich and the surrounding area
The scenic setting of the world-famous monastery Andechs (at an altitude of
800 m) with its enchanting baroque church and internationally acclaimed, extremely drinkable "Andechs beer," is ideal for those seeking relaxation. It is only 10 km away from Hotel Seehof offering a perfect route, especially for motorcyclists.
Possenhofen Castle is also known as "Sissi's Castle." A secluded path through the woods and alongside the lake leads to the castle where Duke Maximilian of Bavaria and his daughter Elisabeth lived. The castle is not open to the public but is well worth the pleasant walk.
You can explore our Bavarian lakes with the help of the Bavarian Shipping company. Starnberg Lake is well-known for its beauty. It is also closely associated with the final hours of King Ludwig II. Expect wonderful blue lakes, a magnificent backdrop of mountains and a pleasant, tranquil trip on one of the many ships. www.seenschifffahrt.de
Munich, with its countless sights (museums, Pinakothek, art exhibitions, etc.) and above all, the German Museum, the "English Garden", castles etc., is ideal for a shopping trip. The hotel will be pleased to give detailed information.
Munich's so-called Viktualienmarkt ("Victuals Market") has unusual charm and is definitely worth a visit. Fresh produce from a wide variety of sectors, an ample choice and established traders who visitors may sometimes wish to exchange their thoughts with.
Here, in Bavaria, Munich's Oktoberfest is often nicknamed the "Wies'n" (the meadow). From the end of September until the beginning of October, people from all over the world congregate at this cosy gathering. The procession known as the "Grand Entry of the Landlords" is a sight not to be missed: Dashing landlords and landladies (!) in their traditional costumes and with their magnificently adorned brewery horses invite visitors to enjoy the spectacle. Souls are rejuvenated over a tankard of fresh beer, such as here in the Schottenhamel tent, and it is difficult to choose between all the countless funfair attractions. At every Oktoberfest the motto is: Getting together, laughing, dancing and celebrating! So let's wait until the famous "O'zapft is" rings out, signalling that the very first barrel of beer has been tapped.
The one and only Neuschwanstein Castle stands proudly in the Füssen region. It is no coincidence that King Ludwig II had so many castles built in our area, but without a doubt, Neuschwanstein is the most magnificent. If you take a trip there, we recommend that you visit the so-called Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge), which affords a superb view of Neuschwanstein Castle in all its glory, and is therefore ideal for taking the best photographs. We will be pleased to give you advice about your individual route.
The Kaltenberg Jousting Tournament is another unique event which takes place every July. Here, besides magnificent horses, proud knights and delicate young ladies, there are plenty of jesters, jugglers, pages and people making merry. Immerse yourself in a bygone age. The organizers of the Kaltenberg Jousting Tournament have succeeded in their mission to entertain adults and children alike.
